More frame work!

Been working on the frame more and more.   What I did was layer about 4 pieces of corrugated cardboard around the picture.  I used smoothed over hot glue on the inside line to make the edges smooth and not look like cardboard.  Picture if this is hard to understand:

I painted it black since the frame will be black:

And I started placing the vinyl sheet on the cardboard.  Vinyl honestly is a bit of a pain to work with.  I had to iron out the wrinkles with a towel in between and that didn't get out the fold marks.  So them I steamed in the shower having to go in and work out the folds with my hands every so often.  And then I made the mistake of gluing too early so I was short on the top.  I had to spend another 45 minutes getting the glue off and soaking it in hot water to get the remainder of it off so it wouldn't look bad.

Getting close to being done though!

Frame time!

So, started on the frame for the Zero picture.  Due to painting the posterboard black, it warped a little.  I had to glue it down to another board to make it straighter.  I also had to use some books to weigh it down too.
Hooray for spanish books!

I also cut a bunch of cardboard strips for the frame.

ALL DONE!

It's done!  I have finished putting all the stars on the board : D  In the end I needed to make an extra 20 or so stars to fill in a gap I had made.  For future projects I'm going to make sure a grid of some sort is present.  Lots of lines that aren't straight.

Still needs a frame, but that's another thing!

58% and going!

So here's it at 58%.  Probably could've finished at 60 today but I went out for a while.  Still quite a bit to go, but looking good so far!

Painting!

So, painted those lavender stars and now they show up much clearer.  I also diiiiddddd this!

I painted it all black. The colors show up waaayyyyy better than before!  Here's a comparison shot:

Before:

After:

Much clearer, yes?  I love the end result and it honestly wasn't too hard to brush in between the stars since the hot glue has made them slightly raised.  It took about two hours to paint the black in between all the stars.

And here's some other pictures I didn't include yesterday

Close up of the stars:

Also, made this a couple weeks back for a friend's birthday:

It's an Amaterasu hoodie.  It's made to look like the official one, only I bought a white hoodie and painted it all on myself with fabric paint.  Took maybe 4 hours or so.

So, I finally got to work gluing the stars to the board!  I had to cut the posterboard to the right size, but it's all good.  I used hot glue to adhere the stars to the board, which works better than glue which might strip some of the paint.

Here's the current progress!  Will be putting up some more pictures in a little bit.  This is about 23% complete and has 1,618 stars out of 6,952.

Sadly, the white posterboard kinda drowns out the colors.  I should've bought a black one instead.  Lesson learned, and will take that into consideration for the next one I'm planning.

I had to repaint the dark orange stars as they were blending in with the orange too much ( you can't really see them much from this distance)  and I now have to do the same for the lavender ones that make up the outline of the butterfly.

I kinda want to do something about the background to make it black but with so many stars already on it it's just not worth painting in between and possibly getting black on the stars. I wonder if there's anything I could do that won't damage the stars...

Well, sleep time for now.  Looking forward to more star stuff tomorrow!

Color update!

Sorry I haven't posted recently. I've been spending all my free time painting these stars.  I still have a lot to go!  I did make a picture to show what it would look like so far if I started working with the colors I have painted already.  It'd look like this:

I'm currently working on the light brown that goes in his hair before working with that tan color.  I'll probably work on the greens after that and then the remainder of the colors from there.

I still need to get a posterboard large enough to cover the cardboard backing.  I thought the one I picked up from the dollar store would be good but it's too short on both ends. orz  Maybe Michael's will have a larger one.

Sadly no progress on Pit. D:
